Vectis Sunrise Rotary Club sponsor Young Carers to go surfing !
Thanks to the generosity of Vectis Sunrise Rotary, members of the YMCA Young Carers will soon be enjoying a day of fun on the surf, at a Wight Water activity day.
Following a presentation from the YMCA Young Carers, the Rotary club were so overwhelmed with the good work the charity do in their support of 5-18 year olds who provide a caring role for a parent or sibling with a debilitating illness, that they agreed to donate £500, in order to fund a respite activity day during the summer holidays.
Young carers will be able to enjoy kayaking, canoeing and surfing plus a barbecue on the day. YMCA Young Carers’ Manager Steve Baker said “they will absolutely love this day, we are always getting asked for water activities by Young Carers. This activity will help build their self confidence and give them a chance to mix with other Young Carers so they feel they are not on their own!”
Mr Baker returned to the Vectis Sunrise Rotary Club on 29th April, in order to receive their generous donation cheque, and to explain how the funds would be used. Sue Denham, Chair of the Rotary Club stated “We are delighted to support YMCA Young Carers with this activity; we now know what a hard job they do, thanks to Steve’s presentation”.
Vectis Sunrise International Contribution to The Roll Out the Barrel Trust made a significant difference within hours to Edith who carries water three times a day from a pump over 2 miles from her home in a container which she can hardly lift.
